NATIONAL HISTORY BEE & BOWL
Alfonso Gonzalez, a junior at Columbia River High School, was one of five students from Washington state to advance to the National History Bee & Bowl — High School Division last month in Washington, D.C. Gonzalez did not advance to the finals, but answered some questions correctly and credited his high school classes for helping him come up with the answers.
INTERNATIONAL DECA CONFERENCE
Heritage High School students Cade Delong and Whitney Hensley earned 6th place, with 120 teams competing, at the International DECA conference, last month in Orlando, Fla. Delong and Hensley wrote a 50-page business plan for their school’s student store, Wolf Den Café, winning National Gold Certification.
These Heritage students also qualified to compete at the international conference: Manuel Gonzalez, Jarod Luedecker, Trevor Murphy and Elise Standiford. Luedecker and Murphy competed as a team in Sports Research and Operations using the Portland Spartans as a company. They earned ninth place out of more than 150 teams.
PORTLAND POLICE CADET ACADEMY GRADUATES
Three students from the Clark County Skills Center Criminal Justice Program graduated from the Portland Police Cadet Academy on April 26. Albert Osario-Jaimes, from Camas High School; Austin Parrish, from Battle Ground High School; and Irina Popova, from Summit View High School all plan to work in the Cadet Program as part of their internship in the fall, as seniors.
