A Stevenson man was hit and killed by a BNSF Railway train a mile east of Stevenson on Sunday night, BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas said.
The train, which originated in Seattle and was heading to Pasco, struck the man at 8:52 p.m. Sunday night. Investigators say the man, who was trespassing on the tracks and was not at a crossing, died at the scene.
The incident delayed four trains and the line was expected to reopen at about midnight.
This is the third fatality involving people trespassing on BNSF lines in Washington in the past eight days, Melonas said, stressing the danger of walking on rail lines.
