Two weeks of a seat-belt safety campaign are set to kick off on Monday, with law enforcement patrols emphasizing child safety restraints.

Officers from police departments in Battle Ground, La Center and Vancouver, along with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Washington State Patrol are teaming up to participate in the Click It or Ticket campaign.

The statewide traffic campaign runs through May 30 as part of the ongoing traffic safety project Target Zero, which strives to end traffic deaths and serious injuries in Washington by 2030.

Between 2010 and 2012 in Washington, 26 child passengers age 12 and under died and another 122 were seriously injured, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

The agency said that had these children been properly restrained, the tragedies could have likely been avoided.
