The Washougal City Council gave its stamp of approval Monday night on a round of pay raises for the city’s police department.
Under the new contract with the Washougal Police Officers Association, wages will increase by 2.5 percent this year and in 2016. The deal also includes a retroactive 3 percent pay bump for 2014.
The union represents 17 Washougal cops. Chief Ron Mitchell and Commander Allen Cook are not part of the bargaining unit.
Under the expired contract, police did not receive a raise in 2011. The decision was made with savings in mind, as the agreement was projected to save upwards of $32,000 for the city.
In 2012 and 2013, the city granted 1 percent cost-of-living increases to its officers.
