Abby England was in a groove.
The La Center pitcher had 14 strikeouts Friday in a 6-0 win over Castle Rock.
The win clinched the Class 1A Trico League softball title for La Center, which improved to 9-0.
England allowed just five hits and two walks in pitching the full game. The win gives La Center a three-game lead over second-place Castle Rock entering the season’s final week.
2A baseball tiebreaker
Ridgefield defeated Hudson’s Bay 11-7 to claim the last of four berths to the Class 2A district tournament.
The Spudders play at Centralia Tuesday in the double-elimination tournament.
Ridgefield scored six in the top of the third to build an 8-1 lead at R.A. Long High School.
Spencer Fix went 4 for 5 with two runs and two RBI.
Hudson’s Bay was led by Jake Hammond, who went 3 for 4 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases.
1A district baseball set
The final day of the Trico League season solidified the bracket for the 1A district tournament.
La Center’s 10-0 win over Castle Rock means the Wildcats claim the No. 3 seed. They will open play in the double-elimination tournament against Tenino on Monday in Rochester.
Trico champ King’s Way will play in Castle Rock against Elma, the No. 4 seed from the Evergreen Conference.
Spudder Invitational
Eli Whitmire set three meet records as the Woodland boys won the team title at the Spudder Invitational at Ridgefield High School.
Whitmire won the 100 meters in 10.98 seconds. He followed with victories in the long jump (21 feet, 10 inches) and triple jump (42 feet, 7.5 inches).
With 90 points, the Beavers won the team title by 24 over Montesano in the 21-team event.
On the girls side, Ridgefield’s Raigan Page won the 400 and Chloe Lindbo won the 800. The Spudders placed second, 2.5 points behind Montesano.
Woodland’s Julia Stepper won the 200 meters and long jump as Woodland finished third in the team race. Stepper also placed second in the 100 meters.
Girls tennis
4A GSHL — Macy Ballew and Katherine Metz came back from a set down to win at No. 1 doubles 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, and Skyview wrapped up a 15-0 season with a 6-0 win at Mountain View. The Storm had clinched their 10th consecutive league title earlier in the week.
3A GSHL — Cailin Dahlin won a three-set match at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3, and Columbia River beat Fort Vancouver 4-2 to wrap up the league title with an 8-1 record. The Chieftains finished one game ahead of Prairie in the standings.
2A GSHL — Ridgefield completed its undefeated season with a 6-0 win against Hockinson. The league champs finish 13-0 overall.

Girls lacrosse
Evergreen Lacrosse Club will host Lake Sammamish at 7 p.m. on Saturday at McKenzie Stadium in the first round of the Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association state tournament. A win would put Evergreen into the state quarterfinals on Monday, likely against top-seeded Issaquah. Evergreen, with girls from the Evergreen Public Schools high schools, finished second in its division at 6-1 and is 9-3 overall this season.
Stars of the day
• Taylor Ramey, Prairie softball, hit a two-out, walk-off grand slam as the Falcons beat Columbia River 8-4. “The celebration was ridiculous. The girls all dogpiled on me. It was my first walk-off and first grand slam. Great day to be a Falcon,” she said.
• Garrett Wellman, King’s Way Christian baseball, went 3 for 4 with three runs, two RBI and a home run in a 13-1 win over Stevenson.
• Katie Schroeder Camas softball, pitched a four-hit shutout against Skyview, striking out 11 batters.
• Paige Forsberg, Washougal softball, pitched a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and was 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI in a win over Mark Morris.
• Jake Hammond, Hudson’s Bay baseball, went 3 for 4 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases against Ridgefield.
• Matt Allison, Mountain View baseball, went 3 for 4 with four RBI as the Thunder beat Camas 14-13.
• Jared Bentley, Camas baseball, went 4 for 4 with three runs, two RBI, a double, triple and two stolen bases.
• Mike Spellacy, Battle Ground baseball, went 4 for 4 with two runs, three RBI and a home run in the Tigers’ 12-1 win over Evergreen.
