Northwest — Seventh-graders at Our Lady of Lourdes hosted a discussion on hunger April 30 at their school.

The goal of the event was to make people more aware, more connected and more committed to the issue of hunger. Students researched and presented on such topics as biblical statements about hunger and the Roman Catholic Church’s response, the history of hunger in the country, how the face of hunger has changed in the last five to 10 years, food access, the food system, and wages and labor.

More than 100 people were in attendance, including representatives from Share Vancouver, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, St. Vincent de Paul, Clark County Food Bank, North County Community Food Bank, SixEight Food Pantry and Seton Catholic High School, as well as Jordan Meade from the office of U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas.
