Clark County will consider hiring three new employees to accommodate a booming increase in local construction.

The county council will hold a public hearing Tuesday to consider hiring two building safety inspectors and a customer support specialist, among other changes to the 2015-2016 budget. The county finance team is recommending a net increase of $844,750 in general fund spending.

The county has conducted about 18,000 building safety inspections this year, up from 13,000 by the same time last year.

“We are moving to restore capacity lost during the recession while making continuous improvements to help businesses and homeowners finalize plans, submit applications, secure permits and complete construction,” community development director Marty Snell said in a press release.

The county also will consider purchasing a new boiler for the Juvenile Justice Center, adding greater security in the sheriff’s office, hiring an additional deputy prosecuting attorney due to a 29 percent increase in cases filed over the past five years, and refinancing $7.7 million in bonds.

The council will discuss the changes to the budget at its regular meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St.
