SEATTLE — The Elephant Justice Project has gone back to court to try to stop two former Woodland Park Zoo elephants from being sent to the Oklahoma City Zoo.
Following several state and federal legal battles, elephants Chai and Bamboo started their trip to Oklahoma on April 15, but were taken to San Diego instead due to bad weather.
The group is asking a federal judge for an injunction that would keep them in Southern California. They want the judge to issue an order that would keep the elephants at the San Diego Zoo until they can be moved to a PAWS sanctuary just a few hours north.
The group says the PAWS sanctuary agreed to provide lifetime care for the elephants in a wooded habitat and elephant-friendly climate.
The judge has not taken any action on the request.
