Clark County sheriff’s deputies captured a wanted sex offender early Sunday morning after he allegedly triggered a silent alarm while trying to break into a Hazel Dell convenience store, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies were dispatched to Glenwood Grocery, 11811 N.E. 72nd Ave., after a silent alarm went off there at about 1:15 a.m. The first officer to arrive, Deputy Joe McLoughlin, saw a man trying to pry open the store’s back door, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The suspect allegedly ran south on 72nd Avenue.
The man was chased down by Deputy Brian Ellithorpe and his police dog, Saver, who forced the man to turn onto Northeast 70th Avenue, the sheriff’s office said.
They apprehended the suspect, Zachery James Michaelis, 24, of Vancouver, in a nearby wooded area, where he had attempted to hide, according to the news release.
