Descendant of Vancouver pioneer Esther Short dies

Alice Patterson was pioneer's great-granddaughter

A Portland woman who was a great-granddaughter of Esther Short’s died last month, her family reported.

Alice Margaret Patterson, 81, was born in Portland to Frances (Short) Leslie and Michael Albert Leslie. She graduated from Grant High School in Portland and attended Oregon State University. She married Peter V. Patterson and had five children in their 56-year marriage. She worked as a physical therapist assistant and was an avid skier and hiker, summitting Mount Hood in 1953, her family reported.

She and other descendants of Esther Short attended the rededication of Esther Short Park in 2000, according to Columbian files. She died on April 22.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Portland. Arrangements are being handled by Riverview Abbey Funeral Home in Portland.
