Jackson Wagner of Heritage baseball was voted The Columbian’s high school spring sports athlete of the week, sponsored by Athletes Corner, for the week ending April 24.

Wagner collected 40.5 percent of the 1,019 votes cast by fans to beat out Maleyah Burns of Union softball, who had 35.2 percent.

Wagner went 4 for 10 with two doubles and five RBI in five games and pitched Heritage to a 2-1 win over Evergreen.

The other nominees were Madison Lord of Skyview girls track and field, Kobey Eaton of Evergreen boys track and field and Mitchell Pinney of Hockinson soccer.

Nominees and the online ballot are posted at www.360preps.com each Monday and voting continues until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes may be elected player of the week once during the regular season, and no athlete can be nominated for the honor in consecutive weeks.
