The accused drunk driver in an April 19 crash that seriously injured a motorcyclist will be arraigned Tuesday, after she receives a court-appointed attorney.

Olga V. Kolesnik, 25, of Vancouver, allegedly crashed into a car and two motorcyclists near East Mill Plain Boulevard and Lincoln Avenue. One rider was sent to a hospital with a broken femur. In addition to vehicular assault, she faces an allegation of resisting arrest. She is already on probation for DUI.

On Friday, Judge Scott Collier said Kolesnik, who is free on bail, now qualifies for a court-appointed attorney. Vancouver attorney Christie Emrich was appointed to represent her.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court, police responded to the collision shortly after 8:30 p.m. Three witnesses said they saw a white BMW, driven by Kolesnik, traveling at high speed east on Mill Plain Boulevard. The car took a sharp turn and skidded sideways at Lincoln Avenue, striking another BMW and two motorcycles.

A passenger in Kolesnik’s vehicle told police that Kolesnik was more intoxicated than her. They attempted to switch seats after the collision to make it appear the passenger was driving, court records said.

Kolesnik allegedly told police she consumed two beers and a shot of alcohol prior to the crash. She subsequently provided a preliminary breath test result of 0.282, according to court documents. The state’s legal limit to drive is a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.08 or less.
