Several members of the Washington State School for the Blind powerlifting team set Washington state records during a World Association of Benchers and Deadlifters meet on March 14 in Portland. They set records for teen novice lifters in the Disabled 1 category.
Adam Reed posted state records in the 132-pound weight class with his 181-pound dead lift and 88-pound bench press. Also competing in the novice 132-pound classification were Damian Parra (71-pound bench press, 165-pound dead lift) and Husai Sanchez (71-pound bench press and 104-pound dead lift). Their marks were better than any previous state mark for their division.
In the 114-pound classification, Justin Naramor set a state record with his 154-pound dead lift and a 77-pound bench press.
Ella Donaghey set Washington records in the 123-pound weight class with her dead lift of 220 pounds and her 88-pound bench press.
Alexann set a state record in the 165-pound weight class with her dead lift of 203 pounds and bench press of 82 pounds. Her last name was not provided by Washington State School for the Blind.
Alexis Payne recorded a 165-pound dead lift.
In the 198-pound weight class for teen men, Nathaniel Baker had a dead lift of 330 pounds and a bench press of 220 pounds. In the 148-pound weight class for teen women, Shana Newton had a dead lift of 192 pounds and a batch press of 93 pounds.
Local skier second in region
Ski racer Colt Musgrave, an Alki Middle School sixth grader, placed second among 93 boys at the Pacific Northwest Ski Association U14 Buddy Werner Championships, which took place March 13-15 at Schweitzer Mountain Resort in Sandpoint, Idaho.
The Buddy Werner event is the season-ending ski racing championship for the best racers younger than 14, who live in Washington, Oregon or northern Idaho.
Musgrave, 12, races for Mount Hood Race Team. He finished second in the slalom, second in the giant slalom and sixth in the super giant slalom.
Tyler Larson from Stevens Pass Alpine Club placed first overall.
Equestrians post wins
Members of Vancouver United won four events at the third meet of its high school equestrian season.
Washington High School Equestrian Teams District 4 held its final meet of the regular season Thursday through Sunday in Spanaway. Results were not year available from the Evergreen United, Prairie or Ridgefield teams that also compete in District 4.
Natasha Flanery of Vancouver United won the key hole and the individual flags events, and was a member of the winning four-person Canadian flags team.
Kaitlyn Kukula won saddle seat equitation and Hanna McDonald won reining.
Vancouver United state meet qualifiers are Natasha Flanery (figure 8). Sara Beeks (key hole and barrels); and the in-hand obstacle relay team of Hailey Anderson, Natasha Flanery, Hannah McDonald and Karissa Oliphant.
Earning District 4 season high-point awards were Hannah McDonald (performance high point champion; all-around reserve high point) and Natasha Flanery (reserve high point for timed events).

Senior softball sign-up open
The Vancouver Metro Senior Softball Association for players 60 and older is accepting registration for the 2015 season. The season run for 16 weeks from May through August.
The league is recreational and organized so that each team can be competitive. Doubleheaders will start at 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays at the Bagley Community Park and at 5:30 p.m. on Fridays at the Wy’East Middle School softball field.
