A report of a gunshot through a wall escalated into a large police response in Hazel Dell Wednesday night.
Clark County sheriff’s deputies and Vancouver police were called to a building at the Parklane Apartments, 10249 N.E. Notchlog Drive, at 9:08 p.m.
According to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian, 911 dispatchers were told a dispute between second-floor neighbors in the complex escalated into threats and a gunshot.
Officers called for armored units and equipment as they surrounded the complex and contained the scene, then began trying to figure out what had happened.
The suspect was described as a man in his 50s who has a permit for carrying a concealed handgun. He apparently came out of his apartment and talked to officers voluntarily.
Deputies spent considerable time gathering and photographing evidence and interviewing witnesses to see what happened and whether threats were made and, if so, when and by whom.
There was no report of anyone being injured, nor any immediate arrest.
Some residential streets were closed and apartments vacated temporarily as deputies tried to sort out what had happened and make sure the neighbors were safe. They reopened by 10:15 p.m. and residents were free to return to their apartments.
