Frontier student places second in essay contest

East Vancouver — Frontier Middle School sixth-grader Jordyn Mies finished second in the Patriot’s Pen Essay Competition, a national contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and its Ladies Auxiliary. The contest was open to students in grades 6-8, and asked them to write an essay between 300-400 words on the topic “Why I Appreciate America’s Veterans.” For finishing second, Mies was awarded $4,000. She was sponsored by VFW Post 7824 and Ladies Auxiliary in Vancouver. More than 125,000 students competed in the contest this year.
