MIDDLE SCHOOL COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR AWARD
Marla Caesar, counselor at Battle Ground Public Schools’ Laurin Middle School, has received the state Middle School Counselor of the Year Award from the Washington School Counselor Association. She joined Battle Ground Public Schools in October 2012 after counseling at elementary and middle schools in the Camas School District for 17 years. Caesar’s colleagues nominated her for the award and she was selected by the WSCA for her impressive and comprehensive counseling program.
UNIVERSITY OF PORTLAND ORCHESTRA — ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK COMPOSITION
Dana Coppernoll-Houston, a senior at the University of Portland, and music faculty member David De Lyser composed an original soundtrack for the silent movie, “The General,” starring Buster Keaton. An audience at the university’s Buckley Center Auditorium heard the soundtrack premiere, with the movie, on March 3. Coppernoll-Houston is the daughter of Stephen Houston and Rita Coppernoll of Vancouver and a 2011 graduate of Mountain View High School. She is pursuing a degree in Environmental Science.

TECHNOLOGY LEADERSHIP HONOREE
Mark Ray, Vancouver Public Schools’ director of instructional technology and library services, has been named one of “20 to Watch” honorees for 2014-15 by the National School Boards Association’s Technology Leadership Network. The honor recognizes education leaders nationwide for their work embracing innovative technology solutions that contribute to quality instruction and more personalized learning experiences. Ray will be recognized in March at the 2015 Consortium for School Networking conference in Atlanta and during the National School Boards Association’s annual conference in Nashville.
