Clark County — Two local middle school students spent a week in Olympia last month, working as pages with the Washington State House of Representatives.

Pleasant Valley Middle School student Ethan McClintock spent his time with Rep. Brandon Vick, R-Felida, while Vancouver School of Arts & Academics student Kastine Cook worked with Rep. Sharon Wylie, D-Vancouver.

During their time as pages, McClintock and Cook attended page school every day to learn about the operations and actions of the Legislature. Pages also deliver messages and documents to different staff members, navigating around the numerous buildings on the Capitol’s campus.

“Ethan was of great help to our office, and I hope he enjoyed his week in Olympia,” Vick said in a statement released by his office. “Participating in the page program is a fantastic way to get youth involved in state government now, in hopes they’ll be more civically engaged in the future. Many pages have gone on to be leaders and elected officials.”
