Clark Athletic Report (week of March 9)

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Record: 24-6 overall.

NWAC Tournament results: Defeated Treasure Valley 74-30; defeated Bellevue 54-51; defeated Green River 55-41; will play Edmonds at 8 p.m. Tuesday for championship. It is Clark’s first championship game appearance since 1996.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Record: 16-11 overall.

NWAC Tournament results: Defeated Walla Walla 61-60; lost to Southwestern Oregon 73-70; lost to Blue Mountain 70-53 (fifth-place semifinal, eliminated).

BASEBALL

Record: 5-3 overall.

This week: Clark travels to Spokane for games Saturday and Sunday. The Penguins face Spokane and Prairie Baseball Academy.

Recent results: Clark won 3 of 4 games against Skagit Valley over the weekend. In night games at Oregon’s Tigard High School, Skagit Valley won 6-4 and Clark won 8-3. In games at Kindsfather Field, Clark won 5-3 and 4-1. Heritage grad Javi Villanueva pitched a complete game win in the 4-1 game, striking out six. Brandon Zimmerman was 2 for 3 with a triple. Bret Moskal was 2 for 2 and Sam Kosbab had a two-run triple in the 5-3 win.

SOFTBALL

Record: 4-4 overall.

This week: Clark is scheduled for a doubleheader at Centralia on Wednesday, and home for a doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. Friday against South Puget Sound.

Recent results: Clark swept a doubleheader from Shoreline last week, winning 10-2 and 10-0. Ashley Edwards was 4 for 4 with a double and three RBI, and Kaycee Allinger was 2 for 3 with a double and home run, and Jackie Jones pitched a one-hitter in the 10-0 win. Allinger was 3 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBI, and Samantha Oldham hit a two-run homer in the 10-2 win.

TRACK AND FIELD

This week: Clark athletes are scheduled to compete at the Saints Open at Mt. Hood CC in Gresham, Ore., beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Recent top results: Columbia River grad Marcus Gaylor won the 100 meters (10.95 seconds) and was second in the 200 (21.59) for Clark at the Erik Anderson Memorial Icebreaker at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Washougal grad Thomas Normandeau placed fourth in the 800 (1:55.09).
