Washougal — Gause Elementary School students in third, fourth and fifth grades didn’t quite hit the links on Feb. 26 and 27, but they were treated to a special lesson on golf during their physical education periods thanks to the Washington Youth Golf Academy at Camas Meadows. The classes went over how to properly hold the golf club, and practiced different kinds of shots, such as drives, chips and putts. Mark Bauer, a physical education teacher at the school, explained to students the different fitness components used while playing golf, including walking, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance. “Golf is a great lifelong activity,” said Bauer in a press release. “You can play this game when you are up in your 60s, 70s, 80s and even older.”
