Royal Oaks awards scholarships
Royal Oaks Country Club has awarded courtesy memberships to high school golfers Ben Gruher and Spencer Tibbits through the club’s Scholar Golf Athlete Program.
Gruher is a sophomore at Camas High School. Tibbits is a home-school student who competes in high school golf for Columbia River High School. According to a press release announcing the winners, they were selected by a committee based upon academic achievement, high school golf athleticism, and community citizenship.
Under the Scholar Golf Athlete Program, winners receive membership privileges to Royal Oaks Country Club for the duration of their high school golf participation. The previous six award recipients were Jace Vavrosky, Diego De La Torre, Molly Bilsborough, Madelynne Pirkl, Bridget Standard and Brian Humphreys.
Winners must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during their involvement in the program and participate in high school golf. Those who go on to play college golf might be eligible to continue to receive courtesy membership privileges with the approval of the NCAA and the student’s chosen college.
Current high school freshman golfers interested in applying for the scholarship can submit an application with references. Information is available at the front office of Royal Oaks Country Club or from local high school golf coaches.
