The Evergreen Storm Track Club won 19 titles during a western Washington championship meet held over the weekend at Chief Sealth High School in Seattle.
And four members of the Flanagan Clan Girls Track Club of Woodland won championships during the USA Track and Field Pacific Northwest Association championships. Those who placed among the top eight in an event qualify for the regional championship, which will take place July 11-12 at Jesuit High School in Beaverton, Ore.
Rachel Blair of the Evergreen Storm was a three-time champion among girls ages 13-14 at the association meet. She won the 800 meters with a time of 2 minutes, 19.87 seconds, the 1,500 in 4:48.33 and the 3,000 in 10:22.61.
Winning in two events were Molly Beaman, Parker Linhart-Wubbena and Trey Knight. Beaman’s wins were in the girls 800 for ages 15-16 (2:21.41) and as part of a 3,200-meter relay team. Linhart-Wubbena won the javelin throw for boys 15-16 with a mark of 125 feet, 6 inches. He also was part of the winning 3,200 relay team. Knight won the discus (151-10) and the shot put (52-3¾) in the boys 13-14 age group.
First-year Storm head coach Scott Timmons said he was thrilled with the results — and with the way the athletes supported their teammates.
“It was an experience that rivals anything I have ever experienced in my personal or coaching career,” Timmons said.
Other Storm individual champions were: Antonio Rubio in the boys 13-14 high jump (5-5), Kennedy Breier in the girls 15-16 high jump (5-3), Lucy George in the girls 13-14 javelin (74-1), Ethan Tonder in the boys 17-18 shot put (51-11¾), Ariya Briscoe in the boys 13-14 800 (2:14.37), Porter Craig in the boys 11-12 3,000 (11:10.13), Miguel De La Malena in the boys 15-16 steeplechase (6:46.48), William Sun in the boys 17-18 400 hurdles (1:01.97) and Lance Stuck in the boys 1,500-meter racewalk.
Storm teams won three 3,200 relay races: the boys 13-14 (Gabe Dinnel, Mason Gross, Griffin Martinez and Shun Yamaguchi), the boys 15-16 (De La Malena, Ryan Cibart, Miguel Cruz and Linhart-Wubbena) and the girls 15-16 (Beaman, Presley Timmons, Brooklyn Jackson and Ellen Burbank).
The Storm had athletes qualify for regionals in 107 events. At regionals, those who place among the top five qualify for the Junior Olympics nationals.
