Two Portland residents died Wednesday after a head-on crash on state Highway 14 just east of Washougal.
Five people were involved in the noon crash, which happened a few hundred yards east of Steigerwald Lake National Wildlife Refuge, said Cliff Free, division chief of Emergency Medical Services at the Camas-Washougal Fire Department.
Traffic ahead of a westbound 2002 Toyota Tacoma pickup was stopped behind a hay truck that was waiting to turn left near Milepost 19. The Toyota crossed the center line and struck a 2015 Kia Soul head-on in the eastbound lanes, said Washington State Patrol Lt. Jason Linn.

A 23-year-old man allegedly led police on a high-speed pursuit through Hazel Dell and a manhunt in west Vancouver’s Lincoln neighborhood Thursday evening, before he was caught by officers and a police dog.
The man, identified as Scott D. Lavelle, was the same man who had eluded authorities earlier in the day in Felida, authorities said.

The first woman elected mayor of Camas has another first to add to her resume — First Citizen. The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington named Nan Henriksen, 73, as Clark County’s First Citizen of 2015.
The annual tradition honors someone who’s improved Clark County. Henriksen’s long list of endorsements says she not only improved the community, she shaped it.

An Evergreen High School teacher accused of taking an inappropriate photo of a student with his phone made a first appearance in Clark County Superior Court on Tuesday.
Matthew Morasch, 40, was arrested Monday on suspicion of two counts of voyeurism in connection with the June 15 incident. He allegedly took the photo in a classroom, two days before the end of the school year.
The school’s student resource officer took the initial report, but the case was forwarded to the Vancouver Police Department’s Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit. Morasch was placed on paid administrative leave the same day of the incident and has not returned to the district since, the district’s spokeswoman Gail Spolar said.
