A summer tall-ship tour of the Columbia River will include an August stop in Washougal.

The brig Lady Washington and the topsail ketch Hawaiian Chieftain begin a seven-week voyage on the Columbia River when they depart Seaport Landing in Aberdeen on July 5.

The sailing ships will visit 11 river ports, with public tours and excursions scheduled at nine of them, including their stop at Washougal on Aug. 22 and Aug. 23.

Other Washington ports on the itinerary are Ilwaco, Kalama, Stevenson, Pasco and Cathlamet.

On the Oregon side, the tall ships (Lady Washington, 89 feet; Hawaiian Chieftain, 75 feet) will stop at Hood River, The Dalles and Arlington.

At each stop, walk-on tours are hosted by crew members in period costume. A $3 donation per person is suggested.

On-the-water sailing experiences are available. For excursion descriptions, ticket prices, reservations and other information, go to www.historicalseaport.org or call 800-200-5239.
