VANCOUVER — A mural commemorating local military personnel who served in the Korean War will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Thursday at Vancouver’s Remembrance Wall.

The mural gallery, along Phil Arnold Way just south of City Hall, was painted by Vancouver artist Guy Drennan as a Clark County Mural Society project.

Scheduled speakers include Larry Smith, Vancouver city councilor and a retired U.S. Army colonel. A floral wreath will be placed to honor local service personnel who died in the conflict.

The war started 65 years ago Thursday, when North Korea invaded South Korea on June 25, 1950. An armistice signed July 27, 1953, halted combat. But there still are more U.S. troops based in South Korea than in Afghanistan, said Jim Moody, information officer for Southwest Washington’s Richard L. Quatier Chapter of the Korean War Veterans Association.
