• Innovative Services NW seeks front desk help from 6 to 8 p.m. weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays.
• Justice and Rehabilitation Administration Region 3 seeks volunteers to mentor children in the juvenile justice system. Mentors visit children in facilities, talk to them by phone and write letters as often as possible. Mentor program internships also are available to educate the community about the program and its needs, create fliers, recruit volunteers, and pursue grants and donation opportunities.
• North County Community Food Bank seeks volunteers to stock pantry and warehouse shelves, sort and inspect donations, prepare client food boxes, assist clients and help with special projects.
• REACH/ACE seeks volunteers to coordinate crafts for adults, teach American sign language, do manicures, teach quilting and sewing, perform canine citizen training and facilitate youth programs.
• Volunteer Center seeks adult facilitators to assist and supervise the 10 to 20 members of the Teen Volunteerism Council. Some travel within Clark County might be required.
The Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge seeks wetland conservation volunteers to remove invasive ricefield bulrush plants, yellow flag iris and indigobush, and to water new plantings at work parties from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays July 1 through Sept. 2. There will be no work party on July 4. Participants will meet at the refuge’s River “S” Unit kiosk. Weatherproof boots, long pants and sun protection are strongly recommended. Gloves, snacks and drinks will be provided. All ages are welcome, however volunteers younger than 18 must have a parent sign a volunteer agreement, at the event or at www.fws.gov/nwrs/threecolumn.aspx?id=2147564588. • Truck drivers and riders are needed from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday to drive a 20-foot box truck and pick up donations from Clark County grocery stores. Drivers and riders must lift 40- to 50-pound boxes and fill out donation slips. A commercial driver’s license is not required for this work.
• Sorters are needed from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday to sort produce. Training is required.
• Groups of five to 25 people are needed to help repackage bulk food for distribution to local food sites.
• Volunteers are needed at the 78th Street Heritage Farm for planting, weeding and harvesting from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesdays and Saturdays.
• Volunteers are needed from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sundays to staff the food bank’s booth at the Vancouver Farmers Market, to collect produce donations and share the food bank’s message.
Clark County councilors seek to fill a position on the three-member board that oversees Drainage Improvement District No. 5. The district, mainly south and west of Hockinson, is roughly between Northeast 132nd Avenue and 182nd Avenue, and 99th Street and 159th Street. Board members are appointed for staggered six-year terms. They must own property within the drainage improvement district and be registered to vote in Washington. Clark County Board of Health seeks to fill four vacancies on the Public Health Advisory Council for terms beginning Oct. 1 and ending Sept. 30, 2017. The open positions are for:
• A consumer of public health services.
• A doctor of veterinary medicine practicing in Clark County.
• A representative from the Clark County Youth Commission, Clark County Youth House or a representative of local area high schools or a local area college.
• A representative of Clark County septic designers, contractors, pumpers, and operations and maintenance specialists.
The council provides advice on public health policies and practices. Leading concerns are access to care, health inequalities, obesity, a sustainable food system, adverse childhood experiences, climate change and community planning. The council meets from 6 to 8 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Center for Community Health, 1601 E. Fourth Plain Blvd., Vancouver.
