This is not your typical June weather, folks. The almost absence of the low clouds in the morning and afternoon sunshine regime is making this a dry and warm month. Yes, there have been clouds, but only higher and middle-level clouds that have done little to completely block out the sun and lower afternoon high temperatures.
The well-advertised heat wave is still on track — several days of 95 to 100 degrees starting Saturday. And now another ingredient in the mix: moisture. With the hot southerly flow of air, considerable moisture will move northward in the upper levels, which may produce dry lightning over much of the Pacific Northwest. We’ll see if any rain may accompany the storms.
If we get clouds with the excessive heat, it will be muggy and although clouds may filter the sunshine, the heat index will still be high or dangerous.
If you do not have air conditioning maybe seek a friend’s or relative’s house to sleep. The overnight lows during this episode will be 65 to 70 degrees, so little time for home to cool off. Prepare for stress to plants and animals.
