Weather Eye: Weekend, rest of June likely to be warm, sunny

Our fine weather pattern just keeps on rolling despite a forecast for morning clouds, which for the most part were either patchy or non-existent Wednesday. That allowed the highs to once again surpass 80 degrees.

Forecast models insist a weak weather system moving by to our north will bring a solid overcast Friday and patchy drizzle or sprinkles form the Columbia River northward. If we do get anything, it will be negligible. Expect sunny and warm weather over the weekend.

I see no rain in sight, with dry weather most likely continuing the rest of the month. Have you noticed how quickly the roadside grasses are turning brown? It wouldn’t take much to spark a fire. Wildfire season is well on the way.

Vancouver is running 5 degrees above average so far this month and about eight-tenths of an inch below normal in the rainfall department.

A moderate El Nino present out in the ocean points toward a warm and dry summer season. Whether it will be a hot one remains to be seen, maybe just above average temperatures. I guess time will tell on that one.

All the sources I have looked at indicate it will be warm and dry all summer into early fall. I’m thinking we get some heat waves, with highs near or at 100 degrees. We failed that milestone last year but had many 90-degree days.

I looked back into record books for June 2014, and it was a wet month compared with this month so far. We had 2.20 inches, 0.41 of an inch above average. With all that rain and clouds, the average mean temperature was only 62.7 degrees, 0.7 of a degree below average.

So enjoy the little cool down today and the “chill” Friday. A few welcome raindrops would be nice, too!
