More apartments are coming to downtown Vancouver, with 18 units planned for a three-story building at 16th and C streets near the city’s former city hall building.
The mixed-use building will include two-live work units and 16 apartments ranging in size from studio to two bedroom, according to information provided by Gene Bolante, a Salem, Ore., architect for the project. Parking will be provided on the site, which measures nearly 10,000 square feet. Rental rates have not been set, Bolante said.
Bolante recently submitted a preliminary application to the city for a review of the project, which will take place at 9 a.m. July 2 at Vancouver City Hall, 415 W. Sixth St.
This week, a former commercial building on the site is being demolished to make way for the new project. Bolante said developers hope to break ground by the end of summer.
Portland-based WDC Properties is the project developer, and the units are being marketed by an affiliate, ekoHaus Apartments of Portland. A sign at the site reads the new building will be named “Herby,” a quirky name that matches the offbeat naming of other ekoHaus Apartments in Portland, with names such as Provi, near Providence Medical Center, and Glee, near Northeast Glisan Street. The company could not be reached Wednesday to explain its choice for the project’s name.
The property is owned by the Mark R. Madden Trust of Portland.
Other projects recently developed or planned are adding to downtown’s residential population.
A five-story, 92-unit complex announced last year for construction on a surface parking lot at West 13th and Columbia streets should be under construction in October, according to Otak Inc., the Portland planning and development firm that is planning the affordable-housing project. The 120-unit 15 West apartment building, also affordable housing, is now under construction at West 15th Street and Mill Plain Boulevard.
Both projects are being developed by DBG Properties of Portland.
