Prairie High School administrators sent an email to students Tuesday morning after a student died by suicide at his home Monday.
The letter from Principal Travis Drake read: “Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends. Whenever we experience a tragedy like this, we are left with the responsibility to find an appropriate response. The Prairie High School and district office staff as a whole are doing everything possible to respond to this tragedy.”
Grief counselors were available at the school Tuesday and will be available today, the last day of school. Students were encouraged to be at school and use the available resources.
“We understand this incident may impact finals and teachers are making arrangements to provide students with options,” the letter read.
Parents were encouraged to use resources such as the Clark County Regional Support Network if they need help talking to their child over summer break.
