A third person has been arrested and appeared in Clark County Superior Court on Thursday in connection with an alleged robbery at a motel last month.
Tylor M. Myers, 21, of Vancouver faces an allegation of first-degree robbery for his suspected involvement in the May 26 incident at the Guest House Motel in Vancouver. He was arrested Wednesday by Vancouver police.
Two other co-defendants were arrested Tuesday and appeared in court Wednesday. Cinthya Araiza, 17, of Vancouver and Selina Quitugua, 16, whose address is unknown, also each face an allegation of first-degree robbery. The girls are being tried as adults based on the nature of the crime.
Police say the investigation is ongoing; a second male suspect has not been identified.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed in Superior Court, the girls arranged to meet a man so he could pay one of them for sex, but they and two others allegedly planned to rob him instead.
The alleged robbery victim, a 29-year-old man, had become acquainted with Araiza about two weeks prior to the incident at the motel, 11504 N.E. Second St., court records said. The two apparently exchanged several text messages during that time, some of which were sexual in nature. It is unclear how the two met.
On the day of the alleged robbery, Araiza and the man met up at the Westfield Vancouver mall, and he drove her to the motel, the affidavit says.
Quitugua, Myers and a third suspect reportedly followed the man and Araiza to the motel. Once there, Araiza allegedly left a room key outside for her alleged accomplices. Myers said he armed himself with a 9 mm handgun, entered the room and pointed the loaded gun at the man, who was in the shower, court documents said. The other male suspect also allegedly had a gun.
Myers then went through the man’s pants and took about $1,000 in cash and a credit card, he said. He told police he received about $400 for his participation in the robbery. Quitugua told police she did not receive a portion. Araiza said she received $405, court records said.
Araiza and Quitugua shared conflicting stories with investigators about who instigated the alleged robbery, according to court documents.
Araiza told police that Quitugua sent suggestive photos of her to the man and told her to “play along,” court documents said. Araiza said she met with Quitugua and two males the same day as the robbery and was told that the two males were going to rob the man.
Quitugua told police that Araiza had told her about the man’s offer to pay for sex and that Araiza planned to rob him and wanted help, court documents said. Quitugua contacted Myers, and he allegedly agreed to commit the robbery in exchange for some of the money. Myers brought an unidentified male with him to help, the affidavit says.
During Myers’ hearing, Judge Robert Lewis appointed Chris Ramsay to represent him.
His bail was set at $75,000.
Myers is scheduled to be arraigned June 25.
