Hudson’s Bay — The School of Piano Technology for the Blind received a $3,400 grant through the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington’s William Troy Sorweide Endowment Fund.

The grant will go to the first phase of the school’s Director of Succession Plan, which includes the recruitment and relocation of a director of instruction intern candidate. The current director, Don Mitchell, has been with the school for 43 years, although no retirement date is set.

This grant, combined with a $78,963 grant from the Gibney Family Foundation in March, is expected to complete the anticipated funding required for expenses in phase one of the search.

“We are very grateful to the Community Foundation for their generosity in providing the remaining one-third required for phase one and we will continue to work closely with other philanthropically motivated organizations and individuals in securing the remaining $36,411 called for in phase two and three of the plan,” said Cheri Martin, executive director, in a release from the school.
