A 20-year-old man who was critically injured when he fell on rocks in the Washougal River over the weekend is recuperating in a hospital.

Kyle Ponciano of Vancouver was listed in satisfactory condition at PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center on Tuesday night.

On Saturday afternoon, Ponciano attempted to jump into a pool of water at Naked Falls from a tree and landed on some rocks, said Skamania County Emergency Medical Services spokeswoman Kaitlyn Hildenbrand.

Rescuers put him in a basket and pulled him out of the water using a rope system. He was flown to PeaceHealth Southwest with critical injuries.

A Facebook page created in support of Ponciano, called “Pray for Kyle Ponciano,” says he has gone through multiple surgeries.
