A live radio show connecting the golden age of Superman with contemporary issues facing Vancouver will be performed at 7 p.m. June 18 at the Kiggins Theatre, 1011 Main Street. Doors to the free, public event open at 6 p.m.
“The Golden Age of Superman Live Radio Show” tells the story of Superman’s choice to retire from his work fighting crime and saving the city of Metropolis to pursue a new dream. It is a collaboration between Kiggins Theatre and Washington State University Vancouver’s Creative Media and Digital Culture program.
Prominent community members play the following characters:
• Lex Luthor: Albert Angelo III, owner, Al Angelo Company.
• Perry White, newspaper editor: Lou Brancaccio, editor, The Columbian.
• Reporter Lois Lane: Dene Grigar, director of the CMDC program, WSU Vancouver.
• Ma Kent: Pat Jollota, community member.
• Superman: Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt.
• Jimmy Olsen, boy reporter: Jim Mains, co-owner of High Five Media.
The show will also feature CMDC students from the John Barber’s Digital Storytelling class. Barber and Wyatt created the program as an experiment in producing live radio with a community mindset.
Concessions, beer and wine will be available for purchase.
