Contractors will begin pouring a new concrete intersection for Columbia Street and the Columbia Way extension Monday as part of the Downtown Waterfront Project.

Drivers should expect delays, and motorcyclists and bicyclists are encouraged to take alternate routes due to rough road conditions during the work.

Construction is expected to take about two weeks, including roughly three to five days for the concrete to cure and strengthen, according to a city press release. The intersection will be poured in two phases to keep one lane open during construction, which generally will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The intersection will be open in each direction when work is not active, but lanes will be narrow and vehicles will be traveling over a surface of base rock.

Rotschy Inc. of Vancouver is doing the work, which is part of a project to extend Columbia Way, Esther and Grant streets to restore Vancouver’s historic connection with the Columbia River waterfront.
