Local civic leaders and dignitaries took time Thursday afternoon to “Turn the Town Purple” and dance with seniors from all over Clark County, including residents of 16 assisted living and memory care facilities, at Vancouver’s Luepke Center. The annual event is organized by the Friends of the Elder Justice Center and calls attention to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is June 15. The dignitary dancers included Deb Coakes Wright, the marketing director at Clearwater Springs, who danced with senior John Nelson. In Clark County, the Elder Justice Center is run from the county prosecutor’s office. Call 1-877-734-6277 to report abuse. More information on elder abuse awareness day is on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website, http://www.hhs.gov
