Weather Eye: Break out the sunscreen, 90-degree days are on their way

“Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer. Those days of soda and pretzels and beer.

“Roll out those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer. Dust off the sun and moon and sing a song of cheer.”

Just a few of the words sung by the late, great Nat King Cole.

All the clouds and showers that dampened the earth this week will dissipate and full sunshine will be with us over the weekend. We should see a string of three days at 90 degrees or better — Saturday, Sunday and Monday — if things pan out.

Scattered showers or drizzle still fell around the county Wednesday with little sunshine or blue skies. Meanwhile along the Washington Coast, plenty of blue skies, no rain and really nice weather. That’s a switch.

While the hot weather is over us this weekend, go to the beach to cool off, it will be some 20 to 25 degrees cooler down there. The afternoon sea breeze from the north will kick in as well. I had to chuckle the other day as I saw a photo with a couple of people lying on the beach with hoodies and pants on. The caption read, “Sunbathing on the Oregon and Washington beaches.”

There were some really heavy showers Tuesday around the area. I was in Salmon Creek about 5 p.m. and it was a torrential downpour. About one-quarter to one-half inch of rain fell in just minutes. Imagine if that kept up for an hour, then we would know how the folks in parts of the Midwest and Texas felt recently.

I might mention, I have more rain so far this month than I did in all of May!
