The state Board of Natural Resources on Tuesday approved the transfer of 157 acres of state-owned land near Camas to Clark County.

The land, located about 11 miles north of Camas, will be used by the county for recreation, open space or wildlife habitat. The land had been managed by the state Department of Natural Resources for the Common School Trust, which helps pay for public school construction across Washington.

The transaction is part of a land swap that will allow DNR to begin managing a separate parcel near the Yacolt Burn State Forest. That 173-acre parcel is better suited for long-term forest management and produces revenue to support Clark County services, according to DNR.
