The Vancouver City Council awarded a $2.5 million contract to Lakeside Industries on Monday to perform street resurfacing and repair work this year.

The work involves repaving 12.8 lane-miles of city streets, including portions of Fruit Valley Road, Northeast St. Johns Road, Fairmount Avenue, Fort Vancouver Way, Evergreen Boulevard and Northeast Andresen Road.

The project is budgeted in the city’s Pavement Management Program in the Street Fund.

Lakeside Industries, a Vancouver company, was the lowest bidder on the project, which is being contracted out because city maintenance crews don’t have the manpower to do the amount of work during the paving season, according to city documents. The city maintains roughly 1,800 lane-miles of streets in its system.
