When police arrived at the scene of a crashed sport-utility vehicle Thursday in the VanMall neighborhood, they were surprised to find two occupants fleeing on foot.

Turns out the white Jeep the pair had just crashed into a tree was stolen. Police got there just before 5:20 p.m. to find the Jeep in front of Van Mall Self Storage on Northeast 72nd Avenue in Vancouver.

Cpl. Duane Boynton with the Vancouver Police Department said speed appeared to be a factor in the incident.

Two female passengers remained at the scene while the two other male occupants took off. A short search ensued, and K-9 units quickly tracked them down.

One of the males needed medical attention after the crash. Both were arrested on suspicion of stealing the vehicle. Police did not released their names or ages Thursday night.
