• Clark Public Utilities seeks tour leaders for the StreamTeam program, to lead groups of fourth- and fifth-grade students and provide hands-on activities. Volunteers are also needed during Saturday events, to plant, pot, monitor and help with general maintenance.

Columbia River Mental Health Services is looking for volunteers to greet clients.

This-N-That Thrift Store seeks a volunteer to operate the cash register, organize shelves, sweep, sort clothes and other donations, and greet customers.

Washington State University Clark County Extension is looking for volunteer watershed stewards. After training, stewards work on projects such as public outreach and education, stream restoration, water-quality monitoring and community workshops.

Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors is looking for volunteers to help with advising about Medicare and health care coverage insurance, counseling, clerical help, outreach, special projects and public speaking.

Washington Trails Association is looking for trail maintenance volunteers to spend a day working with a crew of others.

Washington State University Clark County Extension seeks volunteers Aug. 7 through 16 at the Clark County Fair’s Germ City exhibit, an interactive tent lit with black lights. Germ City shows visitors how to stay healthy through hand washing. Volunteers, in groups of three or four, receive fair entry and parking passes for the day, for every four-hour shift worked. The county councilors seek to fill a vacancy on the local Civil Service Commission, for a six-year term beginning Oct. 1.

The five-member commission oversees certain employment and personnel matters for the sheriff’s office. The primary focus is to ensure that pre-employment testing and hiring is fair, valid and non-discriminatory. The commission also presides over appeal hearings. The group meets monthly, or as needed, for two to four hours, typically during regular business hours.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and registered to vote in Clark County. They must have lived in the county for at least two years and show an ability to balance interests of job applicants, current employees and the sheriff. Education and experience in personnel administration or law enforcement are highly valued.

The city of Vancouver seeks to fill a position on the Building-Fire Code Commission, a volunteer commission of at least five members that makes recommendations to the Vancouver City Council regarding building and fire codes. The commission meets as needed. City residency is not a requirement. Preference will be given to persons with a background in engineering and architectural fields.
