A canoe that includes youth from the Cowlitz Tribe landed at Fort Vancouver at 12:30 p.m. today as they take part in an annual canoe journey organized by Northwest tribes.
This year’s paddlers spent the night at Beacon Rock State Park and put back into the water at Washougal for their trip to Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. Lunch and a protocol program were on the afternoon schedule.
On Wednesday, the paddlers and their canoe will go overland to to Birch Bay in Northwest Washington, where they will launch and spend a week paddling most of the length of Puget Sound. The annual meet-up is Aug. 5-7 on the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation.
