Ridgefield — Dodi McCombs retired after 40 years as a teacher, the last 34 as a kindergarten teacher in the Ridgefield School District.

To celebrate her time with the district, McCombs was honored at a party featuring photographs of her past classes and former students.

She started teaching kindergarten at South Ridge Elementary School in 1981, and said in a release from the district that kindergarten students are her favorite age to teach.

“I love their personalities, their unique interpretations of the world, their group hugs and the looks on their faces when they grasp a concept for the first time,” McCombs said in the release. “Teaching kindergarten is a lot of work, but it’s worth every minute of it.”

She plans to stay involved with school even in retirement by volunteering in kindergarten classes two days a week.
