Annual maintenance work on the Interstate 5 Bridge will intermittently close the span for two nights this week, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
Crews plan to grease the 6½ miles of cables that help move the lift span and counterweights during a bridge lift. Oregon Department of Transportation workers grease the cables every year.
The work will cause bridge lifts that will close the span for up to 20 minutes at a time. The closures will happen between 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. both Friday and Saturday nights, according to WSDOT. Bicycle and pedestrian paths will also be closed during the lifts.
Drivers traveling between Vancouver and Portland can use Interstate 205 during the closures.
