Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council.

• CDM Services is looking for a volunteer hairdresser, handyman, musician, kitchen assistants and program aides.

• Humane Society for Southwest Washington seeks volunteer help at its ReTails Thrift Store, with books and media, tools, clothing, electronics, in the boutique or donation trailer, with home decor, repurposing and upcycling, with sales, donations and truck driving.

• Kaiser Permanente is looking for Hospice volunteers to visit with patients during the last six months of their lives, read or play games, support patients’ families, and to make phone calls to families after a death, offering compassion and bereavement services information.

• Open House Ministries seeks help at its Wheel Deals Bike Shop and Second Hand Solutions thrift store, The Clothing Annex, and Common Grounds Coffee Shop. Computer technicians are also needed.

Columbia Springs is looking for volunteers to help with crafts and games at its Going Green summer camp for students in fourth through sixth grade, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 10-15. Volunteers, working two-hours shifts, are needed to help with science projects, make ice cream, and lead nature hikes.

Donations of craft materials are also needed, including plastic food containers, thick rubber bands, old battery-operated toys or small appliances, window screens for paper making, scraps of fabric for puppet making, and any plastic containers with a “6” in the recycle symbol.

The city of Vancouver seeks to fill a mid-term vacancy on the Parking Advisory Committee, a seven-member volunteer body that advises Vancouver City Council and city staff on parking policy and program implementation. Members must be city residents or property owners, business owners, or an officer or partner in a business located in the downtown area. One member may be an employee of a downtown business.

The committee meets at 7:30 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month at City Hall, or as scheduled.
