Hernstadt named to dean’s list

Kayla Hernstadt of Camas has been named to the dean’s list at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the spring semester.

The list recognizes full-time students who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

Hernstadt is studying architecture. Rensselaer Polytechnic is located in Troy, New York.

Food, fun and learning at Hathaway Elementary

There are a series of free, educational programs being offered at Hathaway Elementary School, 630 24th St., this summer. Upcoming presentations include:

*The Reptile Man; noon Wednesday, July 22. Betty the Burmese python, Lucy the gator and an African desert tortoise are some of the visitors Scott Peterson brings. It will also include “hands on” exploration.

*OMSI Science Festival: noon to 3 p.m. Monday, July 27. Activities will include constructing a dinosaur skeleton, digging for fossils and exploring magnets, as well as educational science demonstrations.

*Oregon Children’s Theatre: 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11. The Amazing Food Detective will highlight how healthy choices contribute to total health. This journey includes animated rhymes, songs and puppets.

Hathaway is also offering a breakfast and lunch program through the federal summer food program for all community children 1 to 18 years old. It is served in the Hathaway cafeteria. Breakfast runs Monday through Thursday, from 8:10 to 8:40 a.m. and lunch is served from noon to 1 p.m.

Washougal Community Education and Recreation is also offering active and educational summer camps for students. For more information and fees, visit www.washougal.k12.wa.us.wcer.

Kwan named to dean’s list

Cameron Kwan of Camas has been named to the dean’s list at Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York.

To be named to the list, students must earn at least a 3.4 GPA and complete 12 credit hours.
