Two people were injured in a crash on state Highway 503 that diverted traffic during Thursday evening’s rush hour.

Around 4:30 p.m., Esther Fierro, 63, of Vancouver, who was driving a Chevrolet Malibu, turned left from the northbound lanes onto Northeast 131st Street and was struck by an oncoming motorcycle, the Washington State Patrol said.

Fierro was transported to Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center. The driver of the Honda CBR600 motorcycle, Jor-dan Martell, 23, of Vancouver was sent to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, the WSP said. Neither of them were listed in hospital directories Thursday night.

Traffic was diverted around the crash scene at Northeast 131st Street, causing significant backup. The Washington State Patrol is investigating what caused the crash and any potential charges.

Martell does not have a motorcycle endorsement, the WSP said. The agency wasn’t sure if he was wearing a helmet.
