Pacific Crest Trail trek update

The Columbian
Published: July 16, 2015, 12:00am

Editor’s note: The Columbian is following the progress north of two local hikers attempting to walk the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail for 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada. Updates are published as they become available:

o Morgen Glessing, 22, of Woodland has checked in from Mount Shasta in California at mile 1,500. His trail name is Captain Morgen. He’s still hiking with a friend from Rhode Island, whose trail name is Castaway.

“It has been an incredible experience so far and very challenging,” he said. “Lately, I have been averaging more than 30 miles a day as the terrain has become easier. I still have not had a single blister and am grateful for that.”

“I will be entering Oregon in less than a week and am excited to return to the Pacific Northwest.”

o Anthony Mannello, 27, on Monday was in Etna, Calif., about 100 miles from the Oregon border. He called his family in Vancouver and reported he is doing well. His progress also can be followed on his blog at https://anthonyspct.wordpress.com.
