TROUT LAKE — Firefighters expect to need another day to mop up the Riley Fire, one of four burning in the Mount Adams Complex in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
The 65-acre Riley Fire on Wednesday was 15 percent contained.
Although it is only one mile north of the 340-acre Horseshoe Fire, the Riley Fire is on far steeper ground with more snags. Hazard trees must be removed before firefighters can mop up, according to a Forest Service news release.
Mop up of the Horseshoe Fire was anticipated to be complete by Wednesday night.
Personnel assigned to the fire now numbers 214, including four helicopters.
