TROUT LAKE — Mop up continues on the Horseshoe Fire on the west slope of Mount Adams, one of four fires that make up the Mount Adams Complex.

Three new fires were sparked by thunderstorms that moved through the area on Thursday.

The Seven Lakes Fire is near containment after mop up by crews on Friday. It is a small fire two miles south of Takhlakh Lake.

Impeded by fog, firefighters continue to look for the Canyon Fire, also a small fire burning on the south side of Council Bluff.

The largest of the lightning fires is the 63-acre Riley Fire, one mile north of the Horseshoe Fire. Riley initially ran through tree crowns, but has been quiet since. Crews are preparing hoses and pumps to suppress the fire.

Horseshoe Fire is now listed as 340 acres. Scouting in the adjacent Cascade Creek Burn of 2012 found additional spots of fire.

About 350 firefighters are on the scene.

Although the fog moderates the fires, it makes remaining portions of the burns more difficult to detect, according to the Washington Interagency Incident Management website. The fog has grounded air support and the ability to fly reconnaissance and deliver supplies.

The Forest Service has added the area between Divide Camp trail No. 112 and Killen Creek trail No. 113 to its closure order. Hikers on the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail No. 2000 are being routed around the fire on roads No. 23 and 2329 then up Killen Creek trail to the PCT.
