A heat advisory in the Vancouver area will take effect at 1 p.m. today and will last through 9 p.m. Friday.

Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 85 to 95 degrees, but could get as high as 100 degrees in the upper Hood River Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents are advised to stay hydrated and not over exert themselves during the heat. Use caution near rivers, wear a life jacket and use good judgment, the weather service said.
